UK Government launches 'Public Leaders' Development Courses

Oxfam recalls fifth anniversary of the Asian tsunami
Homes have been completely destroyed by the tidal waves. © UNICEF Maldives/2004/Shah.By the fifth anniversary of the 2004 Asian tsunami, 26 December 2009, international agency Oxfam will close the last few remaining tsunami aid projects having helped approximately 2.5 million people. The tsunami response was the largest aid effort Oxfam has ever undertaken in its 67-year history. 2.5 million people were helped, 10,800 wells, 2,900 houses, 102 schools, 31 bridges built and 100 km of roads cleared and constructed. right arrow read more

It has published a list of re-appointments in the past year showing that the majority of UK's NDPBs are re-appointing board directors far too frequently; paying them too much and signing them up for far too long. right arrow read more

Asian Achievers Awards 2009

Over 750 individuals had gathered to see chief guest Baroness Shriti Vadera honour Asians in nine categories.  Indian woman helping to rebuild Sri Lanka with the 'Hansa' Pre School
Lina DesaiIndian woman Lina Desai, has been helping to rebuild Sri Lanka following the traumatic effects of the Asian Tsunami in 2004. Mrs Desai raised funds and founded the 'Hansa' Pre School in the Uragasmanhandiya. Vin Murria, Asian Woman of the Year 2009The achievements of ten Asian women were recognised at an awards ceremony in London last night (20 May 2009) attended by Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall. Businesswoman Vin Murria, who holds several senior roles with multi-national companies such as Advanced Computer Services, was presented with the Lloyds TSB AWA Award by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.
