SABIHA RUMANI MALIK
Sabiha Rumani Malik, founder and president of the Diamonds For Humanity Foundation

Sabiha Rumani Malik was born in Pakistan to a Sufi family. Having worked as a director and board member at Foster and Partners, the architecture and design firm, Sabiha was involved in various concepts for major architecture projects including the Reichstag in Berlin and the Carre d'Art Museum in Nimes. Sabiha has also designed jewellery for many years and in 2000 was selected as the designer for a major retail operation.

In 2004 Sabiha founded the Diamonds For Humanity Foundation, a global initiative aimed at returning the benefits of diamonds to the often conflict-ridden and poverty-stricken communities where they are mined. The foundation was inaugurated in April 2005 by the United Nations.

Using funds generated by a sister for-profit organisation, Diamonds For Humanity Inc., which produces and markets diamond jewellery, the foundation intends to strengthen institutions, engage citizens, develop leaders, build communities and foster partnerships within the African communities that produce the diamonds. It aims to return the benefits of diamond mining by actively supporting models that contribute to transformational change at an institutional level, as well as organisations that are aligned with the mission of working to achieve sustainable progress in the program areas.
