BBC2 Cooking Showdown winner launches Indian Supper Club
Lorna Nanda Gangotra, who won BBC2’s ‘The Big Family Cooking Showdown’ competition with her sisters in 2017, is to launch an Indian Supper Club on 23rd September 2018 at Darjeeling Express, London. Entitled ‘The Little Indian Kitchen’, the inaugural pop-up features authentic homestyle Indian dishes including batata vada (potato & daal balls), baingan ka bharta (aubergine) and dhai vada (lentil fritters), among other dishes.
“This menu is what a meal in my home would be if I was to cook for family, friends or loved ones”, said Lorna. “It will surely be an unforgettable experience and the start of many more exciting pop-ups to come, I hope. All curries are gluten free and most are dairy free so I hope to be able to cater for vegans and other special culinary needs. All I ask is people tell me about their allergies and intolerances in advance!”

Canape – Papri chaat (V) – A little explosion of flavours & textures all in one bite! Crispy puris topped with spiced potato & onion, tamarind, coriander chutney, yoghurt, pomegranate and a sprinkling of crunchy sev.

Starter – Batata Vada (V) – Spiced potato & urid daal balls flavoured with curry leaf and deep fried in a chickpea flour batter, served with fresh coriander chutney.

Main Course – A selection of dishes served family style:
Chicken Curry – a firm family favourite, cooked in my homemade masala/’tarka’
Baingan Ka Bharta – smoked aubergine cooked with fresh fenugreek & tomatoes
Anardana Channa – pomegranate chickpea curry – another family favourite & my Mama’s signature dish
Dhai Vada – mini lentil fritters in a spiced yoghurt topped with a swirl of tamarind
Laccha Parantha – flaky layered Indian flatbread
Jeera Rice & Red Onion Salad

Dessert – Kheer – Indian Rice Pudding with almonds & sultanas finished with crushed pistachios and a touch of ‘gold’; and Cardamom Shortbread served with Masala Chai (Indian Tea).
