National Curry Week, 7th – 13th October 2019
National Curry Week, which runs from 7th – 13th October 2019, has three main aims: to honour the nation’s favourite cuisine; celebrate the burgeoning Indian restaurant industry and raise money for poverty focused charities. Since the 1970’s, curry houses have become a staple of highstreets up and down the country and millions of curries are consumed every single week. Celebrated each October National Curry Week applauds the diverse culture in the UK and as a result of this, the many delicious dishes available to us on a daily basis
The first National Curry Week took place in 1998 and it was founded by the late Peter Grove. Peter was a prominent journalist who had fallen in love with curry. His vision was to drive awareness and appreciation of the burgeoning Indian restaurant industry, whilst also raising funds for charity. Now managed by Kingfisher, the National Curry Week charity Curry for Change carries out essential work in rural regions throughout Asia and Africa; combatting malnourishment and poverty by providing communities with the means to grow their own food and giving access to vital information on nutrition and health.
